Abstract
BACKGOUND
The role of pharmacists in anti-doping education and in preventing doping is increasing, especially with a rise in recreational sports participation. However, there is a lack of research on how pharmacists in Korea handle doping-related counseling.
METHODS
An online survey with a structured questionnaire was performed from 169 pharmacists regarding their anti-doping knowledge, experience, and attitudes. Data was analyzed through crosstabulation and logistic regression.
RESULTS
Pharmacists who engaged in anti-doping education or counseled athletes had higher levels of anti-doping knowledge. Most pharmacists had negative attitudes towards doping and felt they lacked sufficient knowledge to counsel athletes. Only a small percentage had experience working as sports pharmacists at major competitions.
CONCLUSION
Pharmacists with more anti-doping education or experience had better knowledge, but overall, most felt unprepared to advise athletes. More research and educational programs are needed to strengthen their role in anti-doping efforts.
